MU120 Year 2008/09
The TI-83 Plus graphics calculator
is a central part of the MU120 course, and you will not be able to do the course without
one. The Open University has negotiated for Oxford Educational Supplies Limited to supply
the calculator to MU 120 students. You are advised to place your order as soon as possible
as you are expected to start using the calculator as part of your preparatory work on the
course. As an alternative to buying the TI-83 Plus calculator,
Oxford Educational Supplies are able to offer them to OU students on a
12-month rental scheme for the duration of their MU 120 course. It should
be noted that most students chose to buy their calculator outright as
described above, as it is a worthwhile investment for future studies,
whether at the OU or elsewhere. Details of the rental scheme, which will
operate from July 2007, are available from Oxford Educational Supplies
on 01869 344500. (Download
pdf here.) Please note that you do not need to purchase Tapping into Mathematics with the TI-83 graphics calculator from OES or any other supplier, as this complete book will be sent to you with the first course mailing. The book will teach you how to use the TI-83 calculator from scratch. All new calculators come with batteries supplied. Further
sets of batteries can be purchased in the high street or ordered from Oxford Educational
Supplies Limited (usually with 24 hour delivery) at the favorable rate of £2 per set
including VAT and postage and packing. To order a set of batteries telephone 01869 344500,
stating that you are an OU student, at any time during the course. Each
calculator needs four AAA batteries and they may be ordered at the
